Have I ever told you about Bob? Rather than the creepy dude who appears backed by a strobe at the foot of your bed, he’s this guy I met once who was really super nice to me about my website. We kept in touch and in turn, things really took off for his label. Like, he started getting these props from people we both respect the opinions of once they’d heard the sounds he’d kindly made me privy to a little bit earlier. Even now his correspondence is complimentary, and despite the lack of actual face time, it’s a warm feeling when I get an email from him. If I was age 10, he’d be my pen pal from West Norwood and I’d steal a read of his lavender scented notes whilst leaning against my parents bed when high speed dubbing my way through my sister’s trip hop tape collection.
Anyway, West Norwood Cassette Library’s most recent single found itself a vinyl only release on the New Kanada label back in December and to mark the fact that we just found out that the digital release will be “in early Feb, or later…”, we figured we’d tell you about it – and the free remix (that clocks in at ten minutes) by the label’s own Adam Marshall that got uploaded in promotion of it. Without lashing too much more praise south of the river we’ll say this: both tracks present a facet of Bob’s production that’s incredibly pleasing to the ear. ‘Say What?’ capitalizes on this rolling breakbeat energy thats cut over heavy bass pulses, whilst ‘Flashlight’ is probably the most outwardly [dub]steppy Bob’s been on record to date.
Please note: at this time I can’t see a preview of these WNCL tunes available, so go out and catch the vinyl of NK30 in record stores now. Preview Bob’s tunes and grab the remix all in the widget below…
